The EAN-2 is a supplement to the EAN-13 and UPC-A barcodes. It is often used on magazines and periodicals to indicate an issue number.

EAN-2 is one of the many barcode formats currently in use.

A Barcode is a method of representing data in a visual, machine-readable form.

The barcode formats has two categories:

One-dimensional (1D) --- Barcodes represented data by varying the widths and spacings of parallel lines.

Two-dimensional (2D) --- Using rectangles, dots, hexagons and other geometric patterns to represented data.

EAN-2 is 1D barcode.

EAN-2 has 2 digits.

The EAN-2 add-on is often used for indicate an issue number of books together with the ISBN code.

EAN-2 don't have a check digit.

The EAN-2 add-on codes are only used in addition to EAN 13, EAN 8 and UPC. The EAN-2 add-ons cannot be read by a scanner if they are used without these codes. You have to make two barcode objects - one for the main code and one for the add-on.
